Charlie Wilson is Bridging
the Generation Gap.

Charlie Wilson  first came out as a member
and lead singer of The Gap Band. Charlie
and   his brothers  Ronnie and Robert,
produced many funk hits including the
classics ‘Burn Rubber On Me” and “Early
In The Morning”. Charlie’s recently
recorded his third solo CD, Charlie, Last
Name Wilson.
Charlie has been in the game 30 years
where many artists have  careers  that don’t
last 30 months. “My kind of singing is
timeless. A great deal of the young singers
have patterned their singing after me from
Jagged Edge to R. Kelly. Andre Harell of
Uptown Records told me that he told all his
singers to sing  like me.” Wilson stated.
Charlie worked with  numerous young
producers and artists, who were influenced
by him including R.Kelly  and Will I. Am of
the Black Eyed Peas on his new CD, but
some producers did not make the cut.
“Many producers came to me with songs,
but they sounded like they were trying too
hard.” the Oklahoma native stated. He
worked on the CD for over a year and a half
with some stops and starts. “R.Kelly was
suppose to do the whole CD, but he got busy
first with Chocolate Factory, then with  Save
Me and then with Trapped In The Closet”.
R.Kelly did  end up producing four tracks
and being the executive producer.
Charlie plans to tour to support the CD. “I
don’t know when. I still have some Gap
Band contracts to fufill, then I plan on
playing some Charilie Wilson  dates.”
Charlie is known to some younger listeners
as Snoop Dogg’s Uncle. Wilson has been
featured on many of Snoop’s song including
Snoop’s  recent hit “Signs” as Uncle
Charlie. “I enjoy working with Snoop. When
we’re in studio  there is no smoking around
me.”  he adds “I love Snoop” .
When asked to name is favorite song  he
seems like a parent asked to name a his/her
favorite child. “Man! There are so many . I
love  "Magic" and "Charlie, Last Name
Wilson.”
Charlie is more confident in his ability these
days.
“I used to not say 'I’m one of the best
singers out here', but I do feel that I am one
of the best singers out!” Wilson stated in not
bragging or boastful way. It  is stated as a
man who has  influenced countless singers
for many years. It is spoken as man who
knows his talent and his worth in an industry
where people come and go very quickly. His
advice to young artist is “Dream big and
dreams do come true. Stay away from drugs
and stay true to your craft and put God
first!”.
