Mayte Big Changes
Mayte Garcia is one artist who has always loved to perform. She started
taking ballet as a child. She was even featured on a couple national television
shows belly dancing. When she was sixteen she met Prince and the two
corresponded for two years before he asked her to join him as a featured
dancer and muse. The two were married from 1996-1999.
Mayte, is now the host of the new E! Channel video show called “The E!
Mix”. She will play videos and interview music artists five days a week on
the show. “I just auditioned and got it” , the Puerto Rican beauty stated in a
phone interview. Although, she has released music and has been a
choreographer, she is concentrating on her new show and her acting career
at the moment. She has appeared on episodes of "Nip/Tuck"." Las Vegas",
and "The Closer." She will also star in “TV The Movie”, later this year.
Some have a misconception that because she is Puerto Rican, a dancer,
singer and actress that she has something against Jennifer Lopez “Jennifer
Lopez is not competition. I look up to her. She worked hard to get where
she is at.”
Things are changing for the former Mrs.Prince. “People think 'oh that’s just
Prince’s ex wife'. That is nothing to be ashamed of. It is part of my past, but
now people are focusing on my talent.”
When she is not working this animal lover likes to “go to the movies, dance
once in awhile, but I’m a homebody”.
