|
As a you child you performed on Kids Incorporated. What was it like being a child and performing professionally?
It was exciting. It was tedious and tiring at the time because of all the work we had to do. It was good. It taught me on to be
professional and take direction.
What music did you listen to growing up?
A lot of soul music and funk and gospel. When I started working professionally and then moved to California things kind of
changed. And it became more pop music and country.
How would you describe your musical style?
I guess it would be soulful, You know? Some pop influences here and there with retro appeal.
On After Hours why did your music change?
Mainly differently experiencing the music industry. Just the diferent aspect of life and getting older. And caused my attitude to shift
a bit. And a death played a part in it as well.
How long does it take you to create a song?
It varies. Sometimes it can take twenty minutes or it three hours. Normally it is between 20 minutes and three hours.
Who would you like to work with in the future?
D‘Angelo. I been able to work with quite a few working I intended on working with at some point. Lalah Hathaway I would like to
record something with.
She is Awesome
Definitely. That’s about it that I can think for now.
You were on a lot of soundtracks between your last CD and After Hours. Those tracks keep your name and music out
there. Was that on purpose or it did it just happen?
Well, it is combination of both. When I was on MCA they released quite a few of the soundtracks. It definitely helped keep my
name out there and my music. My manger come into play as Well as all the guest artists that called and wanted me to be involved
with their projects, so I’m glad about that.
Do you enjoy touring?
Yeah. I love tour.

I like traveling . I being on the tour bus. I like that solitude I find on tour away from. Just away. Just away from the phone ringing all

I just went into the studio and did some work with Jimmy Sommers again. Potentially, for his next album. I have another project in
the works with me and a producer from Australia we are trying to get off the ground. It should be interesting.
What advice would you give someone who is trying to be a songwriter?
You should definitely should be patient in terms of the process to get your songs heard and potentially recorded. It is not an easy
task. I’d say for most writers, they always have to write. So , I would say as long as you continue to write eventually someone will
hear your stuff. You have to do it for the love of it, You know.
Instead of just for the money?
Yeah. Or the recognition or the validation.
Why is it important to do it for the love of music?
Well, for the love art of writing. Whether it is being an author or whatever. It is a release. It is something I find and the reason and
my purpose for being here. It sustains me.
What currently musical artist do you enjoy?
