Janet's tenth studio album"Discipline" is on fire! The lead single "Feedback" has an infectious beat that gives the CD a great start. "Luv"which is produced by Darkchild, is fun play on words comparing love to a car accident. It is mid-tempo song that sounds like summer time song. "Rollercoaster" is bananas! It a groove with Janet harmonizing with herself about the ups and downs of a love affair. "Rock with U" is mid tempo jam produced by Jermaine Dupri (JD), and it has a backing synthzier sound that takes it back to the '80's. The thing that makes the song is Janet's smooth voice paired with the robotic voice. "2nite" is simply a club jam about getting down on to it. "Can't Be Good" is a slow song about not wanting to fall in love again. It is reminiscent of "Again". "So Much Betta" is another JD club banger. "Tried of being number 2,I do what she can't do/So much betta I am for you" She sings over a hard thumping beat. "The 1" features Missy Elliot making this song off the charts. It is sexual charged song with Janet singing "I just be the one for you" over a go go type beat. This is type of CD you can listen to with hitting the skip button. Everyone needs a little "Discipline" in their lives.

CD of Month of April : Bare by Alison Crockett
Alison Crockett Bare (Sol Image Records)
On her second solo CD, Bare Alison Crockett is raw and emotional. This is one of the best soul CDs to come out in years. No, this is not an exaggeration. Alison sings and plays piano on the tracks with such a passion on this CD. “Since You’ve Been Gone” is a funky song of lost with her voice layered over itself... “So Sweet” is beautiful piano mid tempo song about being love. “Anything” is a great song of longing. Alison is able to capture the real raw emotion of lost in this song. When she sings “Anything you say you want I do that for you/anything that you say you need I do that too” You can tell that she believes every syllable that she is singing. Alison bravely covers the classic Sade song, “Love Is Stronger Than Pride”. Alison makes it her own by changing the arrangement slightly making it more jazzy. It is a haunting version of the song. It stays with you after the song ends. “HowDeep is Your Love” is the best original song on this collection. The piano and her voice combine to make an audio masterpiece. The song follows the singer, as she tries to navigate her way through some real emotions. Bare is a great buy for anyone you loves real soul music or jazz.

"Soft and Wet" by The Black Poet Ventures April 5, 2008 Phoenix Center For the Arts
Reviewed by Michael
The Black Poet Ventures’ “Soft & Wet : From Her Lips to Your Ears” at the Phoenix Center For the Arts was incredible. Black Poets Ventures is a multimedia entertainment performance arts group. “Soft & Wet” was an all female cast of poets and singers and musicians talking about love, sex and passion. The event was hosted and directed by well-known Phoenix poet Wisdom.
The night started with Pam the Comedian, who spoke frankly about her sex life and played off the audience with her quick wit. She stated that she was “Grown ass woman” The audience was able to get a taste of what the night would be like when he brought out one of her toys and threw it out into the audience. I would expect nothing less from a show named after a Prince song!
The showed featured Kween who is a distinguished poet and singer, who has appeared on HBO as part of The Punanny Poets. Her performances were outstanding especially when she performed “Flashdance” a song about shooting her unfaithful lover, which had the audience singing along while laughing. Singer/poet Rye was another standout of the night with her performances of Jill Scott's " Celibacy Blues" and Erykah Badu's
"Tyrone". Rye sings with such a purity and warmth. All the women who performed were amazing including Ms Marche, Miouo and Patrice.
The show was an excellent example of the talent that runs so deep in Phoenix. I say keep it coming BPV. Keep it coming.
